GOLF: Ladies well represented at Charity Golf Day

Saturday, October 24 (charity day for cancer support) saw a massive field of 98 players – a huge success.

First of all the shootout held at 5.30pm saw Christian Green share the $500 cheque (kindly donated by Coles)with our illustrious captain Vicki Gainsford who also landed on the ninth green, nearest pin congratulations, Vicki and Christian.

Bruce and Patricia Mitchell won the mixed section with a 63 nett, Sue McCutcheon and Judy Barlow were the winners of ladies section 63 nett, Vicki Gainsford and Maida O’Mally were runners-up 69 and a half nett.

Nearest pins 3rd Heather Bootle, 9th Bev Woods, 10th Judy Barlow, 17th Sue McCutcheon, Viv Halbisch second hit to sixth pin.

Lucky Joan Collins won the lovely set of Callaway irons and bag.

Every player won a gift donated by Coles.

Wednesday October 28 (last day of winter competition) being a cool morning with gusty wind saw 14 players contest a stableford event with Betty Green’s trophy also kindly donated for nearest pins and raffle.

Stableford winner Joy Whiteman 41 points. Joy may have reduced her handicap and returned to B grade.

First optional ball went to Elaine Ashdown 39 points, (Elaine is also back in B grade with a reduced handicap), second optional ball Robyn Jones 36 points, third optional ball Bev Woods 35 points, fourth and final optional ball went to Gail White 34points, winning on a count back from Maida O’Mally 34 points, Maida won nearest pin on the 17th and Robyn Jones won nearest the pin on ninth.

Drawn card went to Jan Brennan.

Bev Woods was the lucky winner of Betty’s raffle.

Vicki Gainsford and Wendy Jeffery travelled to Wellington representing our club at Wellington’s Open Tournament where there was a pleasing crowd of 73 players.

Wendy won a bottle of wine from a draw capping off a very happy day.

Don’t forget the break-up party November 13, 7pm bring a salad or sweet.

Being the last report for 2015 I would like to wish players and readers a very happy and safe Christmas and new year for 2016 where my reports will commence again about the end of March.
